I just found a 1976 penny about 10 min ago and it appears to be stamped on a different planchet ..can anyone tell me anything about this?.. Please be nice ....I'm pretty new still... But I have never found anything like this.
DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged PMD - Post Mint Damage Your Cent was altered after it left the US Mint. How do I know this? 34 years collecting Mint Errors. I'm a specialist. Have a nice day! Peace
The obverse has similarities to a Canadian cent but other than that I would assume someone was playing with this and did some tooling to it.
I agree with our fellow enthusiasts: damaged. Possibly two events. Partially done in a washer/dryer (worn reverse) and a vise to flatten the rim.
For whatever reason, some people get their jollies by damaging coins in all sorts of ways. Beats me why, but they do.
Funny! I didn't see and read this until just now.. I just had a few other new members before this thread asking if I'm sure and that who do I think I was.. Same kind of know it all? too bad.. If they don't want my help that's their loss! Love you guys. You're funny!
If only you understood how frustrating it is to try to help newbies and they turn around and tell me I know nothing and to get a life. But it's all good. Their loss in not wanting to learn! By the way. Welcome to CoinTalk.. Stick around and you will understand what I mean!
Folks should politely question what they are told by anyone on a coin site such as this. People don't care how great we think we are. They don't come here to be bossed around. They don't come here for spelling lessons. They just need honest answers. It's up to them to take what they are told about the coin and learn from it. When they get the same answer from several members, it's a safe bet that the information is probably correct.
You sure are right! Who the heck does that paddyman think he is anyway? He thinks he's special or something? The heck with him! He needs to get a life!
You are special. I see you as a good man with many skills. With error coins, I see you as an expert. You give solid correct answers. Many here including myself have learned a great deal from you. It's fun to see Fred posting here. I also really trust Chris's opinion.
Well thank you. I'm learning to be patient and to give better answers to the newbies. It's only right to try to educate them in a simple way.
