I know this is not considered ancient but I am sure a lot of you will be able to help me out with this one. Was going through my family tree and saw that one of my relatives occupation was a Falconer to Prince Henry, Sergeant Falconer to King Charles I of England, Gentleman, Falconer, Master Falconer. Also found another relative that is right up my alley for sure look at his occupation. Sir Thomas Fitz Otes 1231-1274 Occupation Keeper of the Royal Mint Anyway I want to find a decent coin from King Charles I of England now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Charles is not rare and has coins of all denominations and price ranges especially when you consider how many are in low grade or damaged. I only have a couple. I'd recommend you seek a half crown like the one below (but unclipped and in better condition). The penny below it is better if you ignore the hole.

I have an atrocious half groat. This was apparently issued by Parliament, at least from what I found when I researched it. These are pretty common in this grade, I think. My photos are crooked - more photography without my reading glasses: Great Britain AR Half Groat Charles I Tower mint under Parliament (1645-1648) Mintmark: Sun CAROLVS.D:G:M:R:F:ET:H:REX. sun mintmark, crowned bust left, II behind / shield of arms .IVSTITIA.THRONVM.FIRMAT., sun mintmark Spink 2850 (0.86 grams / 17 mm)
Have a few coins of Charles. Due to the need for paying mercenaries during the civil war, he minted lots of coins and especially lots of high denominations. If you are looking for an inexpensive example, try a Tower mint halfcrown, you should be able to get a reasonably nice example for under $300. It’s a big and impressive piece. Here is a slightly larger one- a full crown from the city of Exeter. I am a fan of all coins English.
Pretty cool lineage! His mom was kind of a big deal as well... But I haven't been able to get any of her coins. Here's my lone Charlie fart thing: Charles I British, House of Stuart. 1625-1649.
