Nope. Just a receipt and the slabbed coin, a 1971S Ike dollar.

I purchased a 1959-D MS-68 Washington Quarter from the same guy. I paid 96.00 for it.

I've looked all over the internet for "First Strike Grading" including whitepages.com and yellowpages.com, and I can not find anything about them. I'm doubting they are legitimate.

After I won the auction, I e-mailed this fella and asked him why in the heck he would be selling a $7000 coin for 96.00 and not set a reserve on it. Here's his response:

    hi,

fsg is first strike grading. as far as i can see they are just as tough in grading as pcgs only fsg has been more consistant. i don't care for pcgs because the grade depends on how good of a customer you are.

i settle for what i get on ebay because i do get these coins at a good price. i never do reserves because they are a negative thing. i won't bid on a coin with a reserve so i don't use them. we are all here to get a good deal and that's what i enjoy being able to do. get a good deal and give others the same.

    thank you for your business

    todd

I'll wait to see the coin and have it appraised before I jump to any conclusions, but I beleive the old saying "if its too good to be true, it is" will probably hold up in this lesson...

    Me too. :(
On the other hand, they love selling $7 coins for $96.

I received the 1959-"D" Quarter yesterday. First thing I noticed (I can't beleive I didn't notice this in the picture in the auction) is that this coin doesn't have a mint-mark, so it's a P and not a D. I would hope any real grading company would at least get that right.

However, the quarter is beautiful and almost flawless. Possibly a good MS66 or MS67.

I bought it to use as trade value at the local coin dealer. I'll take it to him tomorrow and see how much credit I can get. If I get at least 96.00 credit, this little lesson in common sense might end up being a wash.

See if the auction picture is still available and check it. Many of the con-artists on EBay use "generic" pictures, and the one you saw may have had the mint mark. Either way, if the auction specified "D", you didn't get what you paid for and you should contact the seller about unwinding the deal. Did you pay with a credit card?

Well, the picture on ebay doesn't have a D either, I just overlooked it. The seller has a good return policy, so I will hold on to this info as my Ace in the hole. If I get 100.00 or more on a trade with my dealer, I'll let the issue go and leave neutral feedback.

There is a person (Seller's Email: jtbcoins@aol.com Seller's Name: todd baleshiski) on ebay selling with the cert'r as FGS.... he previously used the sticker SGS.... same stuff though.... He is making a racket of selling cleaned coins as Cert'd MS86-70.... It is a phony cert company of his own making....

I know... I was fool enough to fall for an MS70 Jeff nickle..... he is a total fraud and admitted to me in an email that there was nothing anyone can do to him.....

    we will see....

I took my quarter to my dealer who says it's grossly over-graded. He would not offer me anything, even towards trade on his other stock.

I've sent an e-mail to Mr. Baleshiski requesting a refund. We will see what happens. I'm irate that he would be so dishonest, and I also feel like an idiot for falling for it. I hate to see people get shafted, but I do feel better that I'm not the only one who fell for it.

    I'll keep you folks posted...

I contested thru Pay Pal and won..... but they won't do anything to him... he has his new FGS coins all over the place.... the grading service for it is the same addy as the one mine was supposedly cert'd at..... hmmmmm he is a fraud and a scammer no doubt....

When I threatened to report him here is the reply I got from him.....

"i've been nice up to now but i now think your trying to scam me. we can do one of two things.
    1. you can be reasonable and return the item for a full refund. or
2 you can keep the coin and do what ever you like because believe me i've been through this before as a buyer and there is nothing you can do.
    i'm trying to be fair
    todd"

Run, do not walk, to the nearest post office. (Don't forget to get delivery confirmation!)

Then, when you don't get a refund, because the guy claims he didn't get the coin back, send the U.S. Postal Inspectors copies of the continuous videotape you will have made showing insertion of the coin in the envelope and insertion of the envelope into the mail, along with the delivery confirmation.

Never heard of them; however, there is a new coin grading service called ACC (AMERICAN CERTIFIED COINS) which sent me an e-mail recently. I haven't tried them, but if anyone wants to check them out, the link is www.acccoins.com. Whether they're legit or not, I don't know.

I think the actions of unscrupulous eBay sellers such as the one referenced here in this thread serve to highlight the fact that you should be buying the coin and not the holder. This should hold true whether it was slabbed by PCGS, NGC, FSG, or MBGC (My Basement Grading Company).

If you like the coin, pay what you feel is an appropriate price for it. If on the other hand you think the coin is overpriced or overgraded, find another example.
