This is not from a Proof set, I got this today. There is something on it but I don't know how to get it off without hurting the coin. 1951 dime.

Great looking dime. What kind of holder is it in?

It in a plain coin holder . I know this in not a proof set but coins put together. I Have Franklin Half not mint mark, Washington Quarter S mintmark. Dime, Nickel D mintmark. and a very bad Lincoln not mintmark. Thanks Ben

Some acetone wouldn't hurt it to much , some say acetone won't hurt coins others say anything will , if it doesn't bother you too much just leave it . BTW after reading your thread about the '51 proof set I went out & bought a gov packed box '53 proof set . seems the plastic the mint put them in was so fragile , it split toning a third of the Franklin half , it's going back the next time I go into the city .

If you get them in the original gov. packing take your time checking all the coins , I thought I did but the boxed sets have no where near the protection of the flat packs , good luck .

My father just got a 51 proof set last saturday. Maybe he will let me borrow it and take some pictures to share. Those old proof sets are cool.

Thank you, that would be nice. How much did he pay for his and where?

Local coin shop - I want to say it was somewhere between 450 and 490. Not sure of the exact price.

That might not be wise. Depending on the toning that coin might be worth more than the entire set.
