    Hello,
Aside from the unusual color, this coin has a definitive line on the obverse which caught my attention. While i first thought someone once put it in a vise, could the mark be an error from the mint? Thanks for any input!

Hmmmm... looks like an old pre-strike lamination error. The planchet probably lost a "layer" peeled during annealing, or.. but it occurred before the strike.

Thanks for the reply. Does an error such as this increase its value?

(Apologies for posting here...I just saw the "error" forum!)

Reverse.....is the line 'raised' or incused?

The photo makes it look like a unretained Lamination. Lamination was detached after the coin was struck.

yes, I see now, after it was struck. Probably no increase in value, but a good example of a lamination error,
Gary in Washington - probably going to take a break, my dog a Beagle of nearly 17 years had a bad stroke Sunday, completely paralyzed, melted ice cubes in mouth until Monday, had her put to sleep. Man I miss her!

It's a lamination error and the missing part fell off somewhere, somehow after it was struck. It is a detached lamination error worth about $7.00. Nice find.

I'm sorry to read about your dog. 17 years is a long time. I feel your pain, having lost a few over the years after long lives. You have memories that will last you years. Thank you for providing a safe and happy home for your Beagle.

Sad about the dog. I've lost so many animal friends in the past ten years that I'm incapable of expressing grief anymore. If that seems callus, it is not my intent to do so. I can't bear the loss anymore........
