At my age profit isn't a consideration anymore (or ever was really). In retirement one needs things to keep life interesting, and to me numismatics is interesting. I have one son and if he eventually shows an interest in numismatics then he can take over my collection. If not, then he can either sell it or bury it in the backyard.
Some time ago (2 1/2 years ago) I raise a survey in a spanish coin forum https://www.imperio-numismatico.com...cion-de-nuestra-coleccion-de-billetes-monedas ¿Revalorización o Devaluación de nuestra colección de billetes/monedas? 1 Revalorización de la Colección 54% [ 33 ] 2 Devaluación de la Colección 18% [ 11 ] 3 Virgencita, virgencita...que me quede como estoy 28% [ 17 ] Votos Totales : 61
Can you explain the meaning of each option? Google Translate tells me what they say, but I don't know how to interpret "revaluation" and "devaluation" in this context, never mind the last choice -- maybe a quote...?
First option: Revalorización = revaluation = more money Second option: Devaluación = devaluation = less money Third option: Virgencita, virgencita...= equal money
Que me quede como estoy - let me remain as I am. Here it means something like “I’ll be happy just to break even.” Sorry, I see that moneditis answered this already, but I worked so hard to get that past the spellcheck that I’m not throwing it away now...
Id never pay thousands for one coin. I usually dont pay even a hundred. If i did, id worry too. If you can afford to though, ie if a thousand to you is like 50-100 for me, well then maybe it’s not such a big deal. I always do what makes me happy, and that is quantity instead of quality, but of course i cherrypick as much as possible to get nice, decent coins. I often hear or read you should buy the best coin you can afford, key dates, etc. I do the opposite in a lot of ways, but it makes me happy.
