Joined today getting back into collecting coins.. Question: I found this Jefferson in a mix of coins and was wondering if this is what you would call a double denomination? (Jefferson struck on Lincoln Memorial) Any help would be great and what would be the value. Thanks John
You should ask to have it moved to the errors section , ask one of the moderators . Just a educated guess , looks post mint . rzage
Not a double denomination. Here is why: If it had been a Jeff struck on a cent planchet-- okay, or a Jeff struck on a Lincoln cent (struck coin) okay. But--- (big but coming) you can't strike a Lincoln cent on a nickel planchet. the planchet is too big for the cent 'die' press. You can go smaller, but not larger. see this link: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=39167 example: Roosie dime can then be overstruck by a Lincoln cent die (smaller to larger). But not the other way.
