    Why do i think Parthian?

Edited to also suggest Sussanid, perhaps, maybe?

Where did you get it from? How big is it? How much does it weigh?

Yes, many of the portraits are of middle eastern style, like Parthian, elymais, Characene, etc. The two inset pieces even look like imitations of coins.

I know it's not a coin. But 8 images around central "mythological scene" look like they could be coins .... any guesses as to provenance??

It's about 5" across. Slightly concave. Hefty for its size. It is not actually in my possession so I can't weigh it at the moment, but I will. My brother bought this in Pakistan in the mid-1970s, in a village not far from Taxila, bargained for it from a shopkeeper who wouldn't come down in price! Made of bronze I think.

Yes - close but not so close. Pointed beards. The 2 insets seem to be profiles also, but not crowned.

The inset pics are portraits that are from coins, one looks like Alex III and the other looks like Phraates IV. I know its not a coin, but it is an object made of portraits from coins most definitely.

Ok thanks. I'll see what I can find out about Alex III and Phraates IV.

Now that you say Phraates - i see (I think) a "wart" on the forehead of the right hand inset image. Maybe.

Alex III is Alexander the Great. Pretty easy to see 1000 silver coins that the inset pic is copying it appears to me.

It looks relatively modern to me. If forced to guess, I'd say it dates from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Oh, I agree sir. Sorry, by saying whomever made this is copying ancient coins, I was not implying it was ancient. My guess is the same as Glen's, last couple of hundred years during one of the periods where ancient Babylon or midwest was in style.
