Believe me it's very hard to drop this lines as i'm very disappointed with how 2020 started!Though i managed to make a few great deals last week, friday evening when i got back home from work , i find a letter from a german auction house, Reinhard Fischer, a letter informing me that if i don't pay within 10 days 199.8 + 5 euros( letter was written on 3rd, i got it on 10th) for my purchase i made in august 2019, i'm going to be taken to court in Germany! It also states that there were other similar letters, but to be honest this is the only letter i received from them so i don't know where's the others. I am not a great numismatist, but i love coins more than i can describe it and i take a lot of pride in paying for my coins very, very fast, on ebay, ma-shops or auction houses! This coin, a Salzburg Klippe was bought in the aftersale and i made the payment through PayPal on the 22 of august and i sent them an email to confirm my payment and to thank them for the business, but they didn't replied!I even called Paypal today to make sure they got the money and there was no issue and the advisor said everything was fine! Can't say i know what's going to happen ,but i never ever thought i'll experience something like this!Hope it won't affect my relation with other german auction houses! PS. I've sent them an email friday evening, so i'm hoping they'll read it tomorrow, though when i made the inquiry for the unsold lot, their reply came one week after!
My God! I have made purchases from him, and always great interaction. Sorry to hear about your problem.
I'll try to call the auction house in the morning, hope they do speak english, also contact Paypal again if the case!
Go back to your PayPal transaction page, copy the PayPal transaction number and email that to them, asking that they use it to confirm that they received your payment. With that number, it shouldn't take them more than 60 seconds to locate and confirm the payment. Good luck!
Trust me, it's more than insulting, it makes me feel like a scammer, like a thief and i'm not like that! Unfortunately i don't have the taler with me in the UK as i left it back home, with my collection, otherwise i would have sent them the damned coin back to Germany, along with another 200 euros!
I had a problem with another auction house/ 5 years ago. I sent them payment with a bank draft made out in UK Pounds. Three weeks later, they sent me a "friendly reminder" asking if I had sent the 800 UK Pounds for lot they where holding. I sent them a scan of bank draft/ date it was sent to their address. Three weeks later, they sent me an e-mail/ demanding immediate payment or they would take further action. I went to my bank to see if draft was lost in mail. Three days later they informed that it was cashed by auction house four weeks earlier. So, I fired off an e-mail, telling them that they had cashed the draft, what was their problem. Two days later, I got an e-mail that coin had been sent off/ no apology or explanation!
Some auction houses simply shouldn't be in this business, it's just unbelievable how unprofessional these people can be!
I'm never sure if it is called unprofessional or rude by culture. There are some cultures out there that don't smile, talk polite, care to shake hands or care about anything but there own personal agenda. It's not necessarily them, it's just how they were raised and trained from youth on.
Par for the course with some of these auction houses. I had an auction house charge my credit card for several hundred dollars for a purchase I didn't make. I had not bought anything from them in two years. Luckily I caught it and they refunded it along with an apology and a credit. For what that's worth. Another I bought a lot from, but the lot was cancelled. They told me not to pay, and then kept sending me harassing letters in the mail about how I hadn't paid and eventually threatening collections. They dod not respond to my emails, even though the letters said to contact them by email at that address.
I contacted Dr. Fischer a couple of years ago about a coin in his auction and if he accepted PayPal. He replied that PayPal and other similar companies were crooked, unreliable and sold information about account holders/users. He accepted Credit Cards and the ever expensive bank draft options. He as much told me that only fools use such avenues of payment. I went ahead and placed my 6X upper estimate bid and received an e-mail 20 minutes later that my bid was under valued. I gave up and was astonished at what the coin went for, 11X upper estimate plus fees. I would check with PayPal for absolute confirmation of Fischer's receiving payment.
Thank you for your input! For this purchase, R. Fischer stated in the invoice that i can make the payment through paypal and add 2% of the total amount if i prefer this payment method, also paypal confirmed today that their paypal account is valid and the money went to them 100%!
Not long ago Ares numismatics sent me an invoice for a coin i never bidded for(i rarely buy ancient ones!) in an auction i never took part! Why? Because them and Zeus numismatics (where i placed my bids)have the same numismatist and he dropped my bidds(submitted through numisbids) at the wrong auction, luckily my phone call was enough to wake them up!
Something, I cannot figure out. There are auction houses like Nomos/ Naumann/ Leu that want only payment by bank wire/ paypal. I like to send bank cheques (drafts) way cheaper. But they say their bank will not cash them? Here in Canada, everyone uses personal cheques/ bank drafts. Everytime I send a wire it costs $45. fee.
