    Even if it turned out to be some sort of error, which I tend to doubt, it would be worthless because this is a Zincoln (Lincoln cent, modern zinc composition) and it is clearly rotting and that will continues (zinc rot). Spend it before you don't even have a penny.

    I don't know what happened but I can't imagine it being something that happened at the mint. To me it seems like it has to be PMD (post mint damage)

    Welcome to the neighborhood, Rodney!

    This penny just needs a decent burial. The biggest mistake that the US Mint made was to change the composition of the penny from 95% copper to 95% zinc in 1982. It deteriorates so rapidly when exposed to the environment. That is why I call them Crappy Zincolns. ~ Chris

    Just has some sort of adhesive on it. Not an error. Spend it.

    DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged

    Not a mint error of any kind. Copper plated zinc cents are prone to (Environmental damage) issues such as the one you have shown.
