If somebody posted a purchase (1 item) at auction that equals your entire numismatic inventory or investment bottom line (not market value) how would it make you feel? Depressed, demoralized, that he is the end user, so what, etc? For this example, Let’s say this guy paid wholesale bid plus 40 pct.
Appreciate the coin and move on. Everyone has different collecting levels. There are those who are scraping through pocket change (me) and those who are buying 4 figure coins along with everything in between here on this forum. I appreciate it all.
Most of us are collecting with some kind of financial constraints. My hobby budget has been shrinking the last few years, and yeah, that frustrates me somewhat. But I still can enjoy looking at great coins and dreaming a bit, even if realistically I will never own them. I am blessed in other ways.
It certainly doesn't bother me, but it does bemuse me at times. I like to think that, if I had that kind of discretionary money to toss around, I'd be finding more important things to do with it. But I could make the same argument for the much smaller amounts of money I do toss around, so what do I know?
So, let's hijack this thread and talk about something else. Why is it that some people on CT misuse the word, weight? Example: A copper cent doesn't weight 3.11 grams. It weighs 3.11 grams. Would anyone care to "weight in" on this subject? ~ Chris
I look at it as I have a lot of different coins to enjoy for the same money. I can appreciate a unique rare specimen that someone else has.
There will always be someone out there with more money... Just enjoy looking at coins if you cannot afford them now.
I would guess it is one of the following reasons: 1. They don’t know the difference 2. Autocorrect (it gets all of us) 3. People are typing quickly and not double checking, so mistakes are made
They are a number of collectors that have better coins and a better collection than I do. I enjoy sharing these success and guess what, they enjoy my collection just as much as I do theirs.
