Riff, I also collect world coins, love it and will never go back to US! I use to collect US, with world coins, you have so much variety and I never get bored.

Read Riff's title and OP: he said nothing about USA coins, just American coins being boring and overvalued. There are many more American countries that have coins than just the US (which is of course the GREATEST country in the world).

Riff, I like Foreign coins too. The variety seems endless. Plus friends give me so many, I can’t keep up with cataloging them all! But, I still like American (US) coins, especially finding them while CRH and completing sets. And, when you have the opportunity for silver - well I’m set!

I don’t mean to be picky, and I know that IS a world coin, buuut it does say United States of America on that coin. And it was minted here as well.;) ( I’m just stirring the pot a bit)

Since coins are 100% a luxury item to collect they are priced at what people will pay. What's overpriced are the things we need to survive.

Well, until I can find some coins minted in interplanetary or interstellar space, I guess "world coins" won't have much competition.

Also, some very elegant counter-trolling from @Razz and @alurid.

All in good fun, of course. :)

If you mean US coins are boring, I'll have to agree with you. The problem I'm having with coins from other countries is how to narrow down my area of interest. So far I have narrowed it down to two areas: (1) Silver Dollar size World coins and (2) pre-decimal Coins of Great Britain. I'll still buy 19th century US type coins if I see something that catches my eye.

I like the early stuff. Anything with a dead president on it is boring. I like us coins though. I just want the dates to start with 17 or 18

    US coins ?

Boring, no, at least not the early material that I collect.
    Overpriced? definitely.

So many U.S. collectors on here are bogged down in the minutiae of collecting - looking for varieties, die clashes, mint errors, better and better grades on the same few coins. If that's what you're into then more power to you but it's not for me. I agree that there is a whole world out there and I think people who just focus on the U.S. are missing out. When I started collecting it was mostly U.S. at first but once I switched to world coins I didn't look back. U.S. coins aren't any more boring than another country to me, but just focusing on them would get old.

Hey y'all, I am an American. I happen to live on the other side of the planet, so to me, American coins are like world coins. I do get perturbed at the sellers in the US who refuse to sell foreign. They are just so provincial, plus the postage is ridiculously exorbitant. I basically refuse by buy from Canada or America because the post offices there steal so much of the coin shipments. I prefer to buy from India or Europe. Seldom have any problem that way. Sorry if that sounds rude or weird, just happens to be true in my experience.
