I thought about this one for a while before buying it. In the end the price was reduced and I had to have it. This early coin of Titus as emperor is very rare. the left facing portrait on this type is much rarer than the right facing variety. Titus is a great way to start off the New Year, Orfew. I like it! My collection is pretty scanty in the Titus area - here is my favorite, if not in very good condition, Venus standing. It may be a fourree: Titus Denarius (79 A.D.) Rome Mint IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, laureate head rt. / TR P VIIII [IMP] XIIII COS VII P P Venus standing rt. leaning on cippus, holding helmet & spear. Great way to begin the new year with a coin of the twelve Caesars. Here's my only one of Titus which was struck in Judea during the reign of the last Herodian king Agrippa II. Hendin 612.
A decent example at a fair price. I'm glad you got it Andrew, you're not likely to come across another for quite some time!
My favorite Titus is this Eastern mint bull. The coin was said to be ex. Mabbott collection but I do not have that catalog to check. My capricorn has the more common portrait right.
Nice coin Andrew! Before I opened the thread, I read the title... I thought: “HAS to be a Flavian”. Well, yup I was right, but... wow, what a GREAT find! Congrats! I like pigs... RI Titus 79-81 CE AR Denarius Sow piglets
@Orfew....Nice coin! Love the reverse, it being my star sign.... Seem to remember you have another Capricorn reverse of Augustus?.... Lovely addition to your amazing collection...Congratulations ..Paul
