According to everything I have read the complete 2007 Proof set has a very low (relative) mintage and is a good set to purchase. Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this as I am a newB! I did purchase it back in 07 directly from the mint. Thanks again for all the knowledge and courtesty from the members of this board!
a good question, but truthfully, only time will tell. Collect coins that you like is the advice I give every newb. Low mintage does not equate to high value (see the silver 3¢ piece) and coins are generally NOT a good investment vehicle. If the mintage of this set is truly a low mintage, then I believe that it will go up in value, but how far is a matter of who collects them typically.
I just do not see that. (but I am wrong sometimes). 2007 CLAD PROOF SET (10) COIN SET-NEW -MINT CONDITION * View similar active items * Sell one like this 2 $14.50 $4.95 Jul-12 18:23 $20 with postage $25 tops.
That's great to hear from an seasoned pro!!!! I'm not in this for the money, I truly have come to appreciate these coins as true works of art! I mean some of them are truly amazing in detail and brilliance!
Depends on who's holding most of the sets. If dealers don't have a good supply and demand goes up, well maybe......
Latest mintage I have for the 14 pc clad proof set is 1,717,972. Maybe a little low but not that low. Danr, the price you listed was not for a complete set. Complete set is 14 coins not 10. Those sets were missing the President dollars. That would probably add another ten to twelve dollars. Still just about issue price though.
I'm not sure if mintage plays a big part in the value of these set or not. If you look at the pass sets the 1999 and 2001 are the highest in value and have a mintage over 2 million, but the 2000 set is under 1 million and is the lowest in value. In contrast with the 1999 and 2001 mintage the 2003 and 2005 sets are less then $30 in value. So with that in mind who knows how high the 2007 set will go.
If you think that the clad 2007 Proof Set is going to sell for between $100-150 in this lifetime, I couldn't POSSIBLY disagree more. I am not saying that will not attain a premium, and relatively soon, it very well might, but to quadruple in value... I don't see the history to back that up, nor do I see any other reason that could have this kind of impact in the short term.
I don't see it selling at $100-150 either. Unless the set have super low mintage which doesn't seem to, don't understand how it can go that high, unless Elaine plans buy all of it out there and corner the market....
maybe 50, 60 bucks if demand for it gets that high, and thats at its peak. look at the 2001 it peaked at about what 150, now its around 100-110.
Elaine, If you think the clad proof is going to sell between 100 - 150 what is your prediction for the Silver Proof 2007 set?
the sac dollar mintage for 2005 proof is kind of high, why is that one expensive? according to redbook, there are several other sac dollar with lower proof mintage but priced much lower
silver proof set 2007 silver proof set will likely traded near bullion value. it will be lesser than u. s. mint offered price.
