I have a 1909 Wheat Penny that does not appear to have the VDB imprint on the back. I can find lots of information on 1909 VDB pennies, but not much on this. Also, it seems as if there might have been a mint mark beneath the date ... or not. Would appreciate your opinions. Any idea of what it's worth?

Looks like a candidate for an acetone bath. Most likely some kind of crud build up. It looks to be too far to the right to be a mint mark. (Even tho they were punched by hand back then)

    Damage on both sides.
If you can see the date clearly, you would also be able to see a mint mark.
    It's a plain 1909.

Love your avatar name: saw my first pyrrhuloxia two years ago here in Southern Arizona.

I picked it years ago when trying to select a name for my old AOL account. Hawk, eagle and others were already taken. Pyrrhuloxia was available. I wonder why.

LOL. Few can pronounce it, let alone spell it! There’s a musical trio here in the Green Valley area that chose that as their name. Wonder if they have second thoughts?

I've never heard it pronounced, so I just guess at it too. I've probably been saying it wrong all these years.

Any thoughts on the coin I posted?

Heavily damaged/worn and I’m not sure acetone bath would help. I’ve heard som recommend xylene for copper instead of acetone. Soap and water soak without any vigorous brushing wouldn’t hurt.

Not much value for it, unfortunately. The 1909 WITH the VDB is worth maybe $15 in G, while the 1909 no VDB would be maybe $2. With the damage, though, it’s a “filler,” maybe for a young person starting a Lincoln cent collection.

This particular coin is closer to .20 cents.
I am much lower on those prices in Good.
I could see those prices in F and low VF.

That's about how I say it ... albeit with a Brooklyn accent.

Disappointing. I'm not a numismatist, but I thought that the 1909 non-VDBs were rare and had some value. Thanks for setting me straight.
