My wife just inherited a boat load of Asian coins what's the best way to get a value on them?

@Thomas Kirby I reccommend you edit your post to remove the 2nd word...This is a "family site" and the mods will remove if they see fit...Just a heads up.

Yes I do see what you mean. My father in law had the means to buy coins like these he was pretty well off. That's why I'm pretty unsure what to think. If the coins were given to us by a middle class family I would be pretty suspicious of most of them.

    Howdy....

Well, if the seller pulled it, he put it back up and there are MORE!! They are multiplying! But he has some transactions (only 73) and all show positive feedback. The toning looks strange, but I know nothing.

Everything on offer by this seller is 100% fake.

I brought my coins to stacks Bowers & they took the ones I brought them. They said they will go in the aug. Hongkong sale. They told me they want the rest of them.

Do you have a receipt for the ones that Stacks Bowers took? I believe several of us would like to bid on these coins when authenticated by the auction house. This house does have a good reputation. I recently purchased a coin from them at auction.

Good luck with selling the coins. You and your wife might be able to fly out to Hong Kong first class if the coronavirus has subsided. I wouldn't advise going out in August thoug - too hot and humid.

This thread is really neat in the fact that most people who inherit things post pics and its all common stuff while OP really got a gold mine of stuff!

Newbie to Coin Talk here, long time China coins dealer. Reading post by post I was saying to myself, hey, guy, you've got some junk here and some real gems. Old Hans S. had a reputation indeed, but part of it was for exotic things that weren't quite what they appeared to be. On the one hand, the page of common China $ are slam dunk genuine but as someone said, only around $100, while the things in reflective holders are rarities but there were good fakes of those even in 1958 - was this lot also Schulman, by the way? The two-flag Sinkiang crown is a head-scratcher. I was itching to get to thread end and tell the owner, just send them to Stacks Bowers Ponterio and they will treat you right, decide which need to go to which slabber, and sell at the hottest market i.e. upcoming April HK sale (assuming coronavirus doesn't kill attendance). You did well! The coppers will all get thrown in a big lot w/o photo and described as including fakes, so will go for peanut shells, but hardly matters. You're gonna get a BIG check in June.
