Can anyone tell me how an image would appear on this coin.I pulled this coin from an old Whitman folder. 20170317_103413[3739] (2).jpg

When you closed the folder the ink from the page was transferred to the coin. Notice how all the numbers and lettering are backwards.

Yep. The ink must have still been wet when the book what closed by whoever made it.

I can tell only what’s important—it didn’t come from the mint like that.

if it is ink, it wont come off. must have been there for years. It doesnt look like someones printing, it appears to have been typed the letter and digits look too perfect

It’s etched-in. You can’t rub it off, now. It reacted with the metal of the coin, and is in it for good.

As I stated, the letters and numbers are backwards.

As stated above by Collecting Nut, the numbers and letters are reversed. This indicates that it is a transfer from what was likely a printed portion of the old folder or some other printed matter that came into contact with the coin for an extended period of time. Ink on metal (ink does stain metals, silver included) can be very difficult to remove without harsh chemicals.

Got it, I just haven't seen this before.

Which also begs the question: Was the folder wet, damp or moist at some point?

Hard to say, I'm guessing it was stored improperly for a long time before I got ahold of it

In my opinion, yes it had to be. I'm not saying the ink was wet from just printing it but it was wet at some point in time after the coins were in the folder and in storage. It's a shame that happened.

I don't know of any way you can remove the ink from the coin without destroying the coin further. Almost anything you do is sure to damage the coin more. :(

You could try acetone but I don’t know if it will help
