Will you please show the entire reverse side. There are other things to look at that are clues to answer your question.
Wonderful.. See the floating roof? That is caused by an overpolished die. Which usually affects the FG. It is not circulation damage nor grease filled die.
Ah there's the entire reverse. You only showed the FG. Always show the entire coin as it makes a difference. Based on the first photo of just initials it appears as a greaser but with that last photo showing the entire reverse you have a floating roof variety. Paddyman is correct in his explanation.
Are floating roofs rare? Or do they add any value? I've heard of them once before but I thought they had to have no lines on the side of the roof at all?
During die maintenance they would basically polish it to make it look better to increase its longevity use. With the polishing certain devices (like the side lines to the roof and FG etc) would start to disappear the more they polished. The floating roof really helps to understand what happened to the cent in relation to the die maintenance. So depending upon how much they polished would dictate how much you see of the side parts of the roof or not. Thus one can also attribute the no FG to an overpolished die. Thus you want to always show both full sides of a coin so it can be evaluated better. Then you can zoom in and show a specific area if you want.
you were right but with the pics that were provided it looked like a very circulated coin so just threw it out there.
