Is this 1936-D Quarter an error coin? I'm confused?

I'm not giving you guys a hard time. I was just looking for the reasoning behind the explanation of a RPM. I may have missed something and just trying to clarify. I'm still learning as well. Thanks!

Sure you are!! Here's a quick comparison on placement using the OP's photo and VV's. Different placement, albeit the OPs photo is slightly rotated.

I've already seen these pictures. Show me something I don't know! It's a different location because the OP's mint mark has been shifted/relocated to the west due to a hit.

    Folks...let me be clear...I am a TRUE newbie and YES....I know it's a bozo no-no...but I did clean the coin....my bad...

But all else is how I found it before cleaning it (with a paper towel and water only)

This whole thread has been a waste of time.

Most of the time people can make a decision based on references and the subject coin. Here I do not think a real answer can be given. Supposition certainly, but we can't follow a coin back in time and see if there was actually a hit on a RPM or there was a hit or 2 that smeared a normal RPM , leaving flat spot where the metal sheared flattened areas. It going to be one of those coins ( and I have quite a few), where it looks like something, but it also could be something else. I just move on. Best of luck on the coin, you can send it in, but probably money wasted. Jim

Islander - I was just teasing you. Your pursuit forced the second look and sure enough your observation was correct as conceded by heavy metal and myself. My juxtaposition of mms secures that.

Thanks all for all chiming in. It's always a learning experience, and to all of those with constructive comments, regardless of how strongly you feel about them, I truly appreciated all points of view in helping me peel back the layers and potential history on this coin!
