I have this Canadian 2007 cent that is silver in color. Am I correct in guessing that it's just unplated? The weight is correct and a magnet does stick to it. Thanks
Your photos are very dark, taken at an angle, and slightly out of focus. Could you try taking the pictures straight on, with better light?
Tips: determine the optimal focal length for your phone's camera. Find an object of mass/weight that is about that same measurement. Use that to steady the phone against when taking your picture. Optimal distance should require very little/no zooming. Use a low level, diffused light source. Don't use the phone camera flash. Crop the photo to remove the clutter about the subject coin. Initial thoughts is that the coin was in a folder for a period of time and picked up a circumferential toning. But let's see some new photos. We should be able to help.
Good move to use a dark backing on the picture taking (it helps quiet the camera's light sensor and allow it to focus in on the coin), but it's still too blurry to say what you have there. Don't get frustrated with the photo taking; it's something each of us here had to master at some point. But try to take some additional shots and post back here. I'm not saying that this is what you have, but during the plating process, sometimes the plating is uneven and extremely thin in spots making it seem like the plating is missing (it's there...just so thin that all that the eye picks up is maybe a very light tint).
Keep in mind that for Canadian cents, some are copper plated steel cents. If you visit the Coins and Canada site you'll see that for various years you can have different substrate metals. Some will be magnetic and the way to determine which variety you have.
