I came across this dime. Ive put it under a 10X magnify glass. It has no marks or scratches from what I can see. My question to you experts is. Why does the Obverse and Reverse look this way?.Is it paint?

My guess, corrosion. Maybe salt water.

Environmental Damage. Exposure to the elements will affect the copper found in the Cupro-Nickel clad layer and change its color.

I metal detect and have found hundreds of coins like yours -

Same thing happens to Nickels also.

Got it brother. So is it worth keeping?. Or spend it. Looks good excluding the color and all.

Why keep it? I put thousands like yours into a Coinstar machine. You probably ended up with one of my finds!

It really does. People have told me I'm losing money dumping my detected coins into the coinstar. But remember.. I'm a metal detectorist. I make it up with my gold and silver finds! So I always win! 20191124_172619.jpg

I think its even 11.7 percent! I always go out of the way to my local credit union where I'm a member its 3% for non members. 0 for members. Love it!

I thought I read in some of the CT posts that some stores do not charge a fee if a gift card is purchased with the proceeds. Does anyone remember such a thread?

Paddyman, Have you found anything of great value?? I metal detect with a little Tesoro, but so far just around the beach here in Washington state. Found small modern change, and one silver bracelet so far.

I don't use a metal detector but when I make a purchase, the change I get back are taken home and put it in a quart jar she keeps next to her computer. It usually is full between 1.5 to 2 months. We take it to our State Credit Union (which you have to be employed by a government agency to have an account.) After I put them in a machine, I get a receipt for the coins and I take it to the teller. She will either give you currency or a receipt for the deposit of your choice. It doesn't cost anything if you are a member. You have to have a Credit Union ID card to make your deposits.

I still cannot get over how many coins et cetera you have found metal detecting!! Since you are in NY, do you go to beaches, or where. How long have you been doing this?

I roll all my change. I have an automatic roller so all I have to do is put the rolls on them
