Thailand 5 Baht, Y#219, Copper-nickel clad copper. $0.50-1.00 not sure of the date ? Hard to tell which date your coin is... guessing 1980-1989 after looking at some similar ones on Ebay.

On this 5 baht coin, the date is on the reverse, about 2 O'Clock position.

I live here in Thailand and have learned to read most of the letters and all the numbers.

Not to question your Thai, but the Standard Catalog Of World Coins says this was only minted 1988 through 2000

Perhaps your edition of Standard Catalog Of World Coins was published in 2000 or 2001?

That is a neat looking book, I should probably get one. I have always been able to identify coins on the internet, most often using Numista. For the really tough ones, such as ancient Silk Roads and India, then zeno.ru is the guru.

I made up a chart or table of 23 different types of numerals, for reference. I can read the Arabic, Chinese, Thai, and Roman so far. Some of the Urdu, Tibetan, Lao, Khymer and Myanmar I can figure out, as they are similar to Thai or Arabic.

    Nice coin.

@spirityoda mind if I dl that photo of the numbers? We have quite a few coins from Thailand and this will be very useful in pinning down the dates.
