I am new to Coin Talk and would like help to ID this coins facts and what it might be worth. It looks to be in very good shape, does anyone know to to confirm it is real? Thanks
WE will need close up pictures of the coin and its weight in grams. Take a look at some of the coins posted in the ancients threads for good example.
This is a very common 136 BC Roman Republican denarius with the moneyer's name split between the reverse (where the nomen is shown as a ligate ANTES and obverse GRAG). I am through commenting on price and authenticity from photos. I do suggest buying coins from a seller you trust.
I am not an expert, and will not be able to offer an opinion. However, I can offer mine for comparison. For a CT person to offer opinions: weight in grams, diameter in millimeters, clear pics (larger format), and edge pics will help. However, it is best to have a expert review it in-hand. Maybe, @Barry Murphy can shed some light. Otherwise, David Sear also has a service to render an expert opinion. Mine: RR AR Denarius 3.85g L Antestius Gragulus 136 BCE Rome mint Roma Jupiter quadriga tbolt Cr 238-1 Syd 451
Welcome to CT! Despite the out of focus blurry pics and the coin being common, I see 3 things that make me think this is fugazi. I would NOT buy this coin.
As others have mentioned, weight and better pictures will help. Having said that, it looks like a poor quality cast fake, sorry.
