Yes, both Sear and NGC are highly respected and the fee is reasonable. I don't know if you can submit directly to NGC or if you have to be an ANS member or go through a dealer.
The coins in Israel are expensive, And most are made to scam tourists as orielensis said (even if the coin is real) I have been to a few stores there, One of them tried to sell me an authentic Widows mite (Alexander Jannaeus) for 250 Dollars. While This coin on Vcoins: Is selling for 27 Dollars (about the same grade) I"d Like to know where you bought the coins, and how much you paid for them? Thomas,
Thomas, the certificates show where I bought the coins. If you don't mind, I'd rather not say what I paid for them. Too much for sure. You live and learn.
Thanks Rick. It has happened to all of us at one time or another, even when we should know better. As was mentioned the Seleucid tetradrachm is probably about $200-300 and the Nero tetradrachm probably a little bit less, around $150-200. That's retail. If you're anywhere near that then you did ok. Here are some for sale at retail prices: https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/pr...o_ad_5468_ar_tetradrachm/1129601/Default.aspx https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ae...eagle_130129_bc_year_183/1169875/Default.aspx
We've all been there. Paid too much because we didn't know enough about the coin or bought a fake thinking it was a good deal. As has been said many times on here, you paid your tuition to learn a good lesson about numismatics. The important thing is to keep learning so you don't pay the tuition for the same class a second time. Best of luck
