I have close to a 100 web notes i think. Only about 5 or 6 have been found in ciculation. A week or so ago, i reported finding a 1988A web note in ciculation. Well, this weekened, i found a 1993 web note BH block, run 7, plates 1-8. It was a very common note, i now have 12 of them lol (certainly my most numerous web note) but still a cool find. I think i am going to post a thread in the open section about trades to help fill some of my holes, and possibly for otherr folks to fill some holes in their collection.... might do that later ... so if you have alot of the common web notes, and wish to trade.. look for my post :)

I received one in 1997 on Mackinaw Island MI, the only one I have gotten. I was glad I was arranging my dollar bills on the boat ride back to St. Ignace, or I might not have noticed it and spent it. It is a 1988-A

DONT go giving them any wac ky ideas lol

web notes were only printed for a few short years covering 3 series - 1988A, 1993 and 1995. So the main years of circulation was some time ago. For me to find 2 in as many weeks through circulation is amazing (to me anyway :))

I haven't found one in years but I used to find them fairly often.

It's been a very long time since I found a web note but I'm still looking out for them. The down turn in the economy has a way of flushing out old notes and coins. A friend at work got a 1 dollar silver certificate in his change last month in about AU condition.

That is exactly what i thought, and precisly what i was hoping lol I have been finding alot of older notes lately, not just the 2 web-notes. a couple from the early 80's, a few fromthe 70's and a few from the 60's :D

what must suck for the kids father who is buying the ice cream ... is that from what i come across... what else is spent that i DO NOT see???

I have been in retail for 20 years and have been searching for web notes for 8 or so years now and have never found one. It is ridiculous how many thousands of bills I have flipped through! I have found other cool stuff, but never a web. Congratulations on a great week! Mike

In all my years of collecting coins, I have never heard of a web-note. I read the original posts from Daggar and still have no idea why they exist? But like any collection, it's always fun to find out new things. This is a newbie for me!

    Mahalo for the education.

The web press was an attempt by the BEP to reduce the cost of currency production. If it'd worked better, most likely all of our currency would be printed that way by now. Unfortunately, while the web press was faster and cheaper to operate, its finished product was noticeably lower in quality than the currency printed the normal way; and worse, the press itself had a tendency to break down far too often. So the BEP just ended up tinkering with it for several years, producing a few tens of millions of $1 notes every now and then to test whether they'd finally got the bugs worked out. Making little progress, they finally gave up and sold the press as scrap metal in 1997 or so.

Heh, I have 5 of them: the aforementioned 1988A BL's and a couple of 1993's. Took some digging in the safe.
