1994 D quarter plated

what is wrong with this quarter i was told the blank/planchet was stamped out and then restruck on the reverse tails side because the copper sandwich is on the head side but still cant explain the the gold colored plateing so im just looking for some more opinions/ answers as to why is this quarter so differnt im not saying what i was told is wrong just want more confirmation. Thank you

Welcome to Coin Talk. Since 1965 Washington Quarters are composed of a outer layer of copper nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. If you think you have one with a missing layer of CN better photos are needed, Please post photos of both sides of the entire coin. Photos should be taken from directly overhead. Ask

Looks like tarnish.

 

I think your coin may have been painted a golden color as you say you can see the copper color on the edge. As to the copper color on the edge being closer to the
Heads side, that is just a 50/50 chance for all coins that have machine punched blanks. It has to do with what is called the Cut and Shear Edge.

 

It is normal. The US mint does not place the Blank Planchet into the chamber by hand one by one. It lands into the chamber to be struck on its own. You can Google "How coins are made" and watch the minting process.

Environmental Toning.

 

Missing clad layer usually occurs on only one side of a clad coin.

Thank you for the information i tried finger nail polish to rub it off to see if it was paint and it didnt remove nothing its some kind of plateing so who knows thanks for the video. I got some more pics for you guys to look at you dont need to reply my camera phone aint very good so they dont do it justice its the best i can do and your right there is nickle plateing i can see where the gold color is wearing i see the readed edge was plated gold color to and there something stamped in washingtons head looks like 88 but i cant tell im sure somebody probaly altered this or something they spent some time on it just to dump it though because its a nice job i will just keep it because its interesting. Thank You guys for your knowledge.

 

It could be plated. No extra value. I have 2 South Dakota that are gold plated. Here's one.
