I just got done imaging several new purchases. This is the first of them.... Please guess the grade that PCGS assigned to this coin. If you're own grade differs, please also include that: As always, any comments on the coin, both what you like and dislike, are appreciated. Have fun...Mike
AU-50 Nice original surfaces. A smattering of luster in the protected areas. What's going on with the denticles on the reverse at 7:00?
I like the nice gray hues in the coin, but I do see some weakness in the strike so I'm going to say that PCGS gave it an AU-50, and I'll agree with that grade.
I would grade it XF45 - it matches the ANA description to a T. Would guess PCGS said XF45/AU50 - but no higher than that.
When I first looked at the coin, I thought 53. But I think it needs a tad more luster to climb to actually get to AU-53. So, I'm thinking a pretty solid AU-50. PCGS has been tight in the last year, so if it was slabbed then, I'd say they gave it an XF-45. If it was slabbed more than a year ago, I think they would go with the 50-53.
There is a bit of wear, but I would say it's a strong EF-45 low AU-50. Very nice coin. It's hard for me to tell if it was a weak strike or normal wear.
EF-45 , the coin could be the one in the ANA grading standards just a different date , I think PCGS will give it AU-53 . rzage
Looking at the responses, it looks like everyone graded the coin higher than PCGS... PCGS graded the coin XF 40. My subjective opinion on the coin: The coin is very attractive in hand. Has a dove-grey look that I like to see on old circulated silver, and some remaining luster on both sides that shows pretty well in the photographs. There is a small lamination on the reverse that can be seen in the TrueView attached below: A ridiculously large TrueView showing the lamination well can be seen here: http://www.pcgs.com/TrueView/Large/12810989.jpg This coin was purchased from a fellow collector Michael (Tyedye) on the PCGS forums. I intend to break the coin out of its holder and place it in a Dansco 7070 with similar looking XF coins. Thanks to everyone for their comments & guesses. Have fun...Mike
I was not going to guess. Great coin, I like it bigtime, and I really like those PCGS tru views too !
