?

194...what? Can easily eliminate all but the number 8, but there are problems with an 8 as well.

  1. Any thoughts?

Looks like heat damage. Could have been in the ground a while = environmental damage. Wait for other opinions...

This looks like a 1941. Like spirtyoda said, it may have took heavy environmental damage. The coin you have has historic value but is only worth one cent.

Thx for the replies, but really, no way it’s a 1. True that the coin has seen some very tough times!

    almost looks like 1943!

Wouldn't it be sad if a copper '43 looked like this

I agree that it looks like 1943 as well, but that's probably doubtful.

In any case, I love coins that are altered almost beyond recognition. This one qualifies. What a life that poor thing has had.

So do we. It's a mess. I would throw it away and start over.

In the condition that cent is in, what difference does the date make, unless it was 43 copper. LOL
