Saint Gaudens die crack?

There may have been a thin piece of wire on the planchet when the coin was minted is what he is saying.

COIN IS A FAKE: I rarely issue such a pronouncement with such definitiveness, but I have no doubt and want to make sure that nobody else gets caught with something like this.

Not only is the wire indentation or crack or whatever suspicious, but as noted by others the head appears tilted the wrong way. But for me the obvious "tell" is that the gown along Liberty's right leg is flattened and the fold "holes" are not there...the folds that are very difficult to replicate (and are tough to distinguish from bag marks or dents under bad lighting).

Not familiar with so-called "Lebanese Fakes" but will research, perhaps the entire batch had these flaws.

 

I’m of the not real opinion too. The portrait of miss liberty is off

 

Also, the Capitol Building further right appears TOO well-struck. You can see the columns much easier there than in the rest of the building.

Not sure how the strike is on the 1921 Saint but that appears suspicious.

 

The rays look funny to me

 

In what way ?

 

On the right side there seems to be two bunches of rays that are going off in different angles. Also, if you were to draw a line along the tips of the rays it seems… flatter?… than it should be.

 

Im in the fake camp as well. I do believe that it is not a scratch. I have not seen scratches that undulate like that unless it was done slow and intentionally in my opinion.

 

Didn't the PCGS dealers speak of the authenticity when they examined the coin ?

It looks like the counterfeiter was going for a modern gold eagle (obverse) and thought WTH...
I'll toss a "21" on there & see who bites.

The 3-V's in the gown along the right leg are only not shown in the 1907 High Relief, to my knowledge. Not sure if any others don't show them (so far, I haven't not seen them in any subsequent year)...or if the reason for the 1907 HR is the die and/or the relief.

FWIW, the Ultra HR also doesn't have the 3 folds.

 

And wouldn't a die crack or break have dozens or hundreds or thousands of coins like this ?

They'd be well-known then. You never see just 1 or 2, right ?
