Am I missing something here?

So I was looking for a Camera to see if any after Christmas sales had started yet. Well my search ended up on a website called Offerup. I had never seen this site but had seen ads for it. After looking at the cameras nearby I searched for "coins" just for the heck of it.

Well to make a long story short I ran across a 1923S Walking Liberty Half for what looks like $4.29 shipped. I do not collect these but looked it up on ebay sold listings and it looks like it could be a heck of a deal.

So what am I missing here? Is it fake or cleaned?

Hmmm, no way, a 1923S Walker, in UNC condition for under $100.00 !! Too good to be true. Something fishy. I would avoid.

Huh.... That is a mystery. I would probably have to risk the four bucks just to see what the deal is.

You will likely receive one that is made in china.

It has the look of the Chinese counterfeit American Silver Eagles that came out three years ago. Definitely bad and probably not made of silver beyond the thin plating.

$1.00 + $3.29 shipping. What could possibly go wrong?

Oh, and I see it's the rare* giant-S variety!

You have his name and location from the ad, so do online research.

But I would go with China

When I look at the reverse of that coin, all I can think of is Foghorn Leghorn. But maybe that's just me.

Silly me. I was thinking San Francisco mint. This is obviously the Shanghai S.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

The reverse looked a little odd to me as well but I do not know these coins well enough to know for sure. I did try to compare to others but at the angle the photos are taken this was difficult.

Thanks for all the replies. Glad I didn't purchase. I am tempted to report this guy though. He has another listing I found today that has to be fake. A 1/10th oz of what he is saying is 24k solid gold coin for less than $5.00 as well.

Just to see, I offered to buy some FE cents, and the transaction would not go through. Better check charges to my card...

Wow. Lets hope nothing appears on your card. I actually signed up with the website last night and was ready to purchase the WLH if it was deemed legit.

I did try to do a search for him using this info but really didn't find anything more than some other listings. I must admit though I am lousy at looking people up on the net.

I checked and nothing yet. At least since it is a credit card, I have some protection. He might just be using these weird postings to try and drum up appeal.

Offerup is a site for those who think Craigslist has too many rules

The coin has a cartoonish look, especially the eagle on the reverse. It is definitely a fake.
