I'm starting to worry myself...When I'm bored at work and haven't een finding anything overly interesting in circulation, I am not going to the coke machien, entering my $, and then instead of buying anything, I press the button that sends back the amount you put in. However, it doesn't send back the exact coins you put in, but the same denomincations, just different coins. since it's mainly quarters that I use, I've reeived some 1982 and 1983 quarters and a coupel of 1965 and 1964 plus some statehood quarters some of which I haven't found in circulation yet.
Now this must border on insane. Today I was 'caught' as I did this a couple of times in a row when nothing interesting came back, and some girl asked me if I needed to swap coins with her so that I could get something...somewhat embarassing especially since I made the swap but didn't go back to the machine. However, I gave her a Texas quarter which momentarily distracted her 9she is English based on her accent) so I think she momentarily didn't realize that I never went back to the machine.
I think this whole coin collecting/finding thing is making me crazY!!!!!

you make me feel so much better skane. I do the exact same thing with vending machines!!! whenever I'm bored and have some time to kill at work I go and slide a dollar bill in the machine and inspect the change that comes out. I also immediately inspect my change when I receive it after a purchase. The person working the cash register sometimes asks me "did I give you the wrong change?" so that usually leads to a quick explanation about my coin obsession.

You guys need to go fishing once in a while, lol. I never do that, but then I don't get out that much. My searching through coins is done through rolls from the bank - try it some time! lol

I'd rather gofl, but can't afford and I have 2 little boys at home 4 yrs and 17 months so golfing isn't in the cards now like when I was single. I'd rather be metal detecting for coins, but can't afford the metal detector that I want, plus the time issue again. So all I have left is vending machine cherry picking. I stll don't have the desire, hhowever, to spend my money at the bank on rolled coins. I feel like I've spent the money when really I haven't.
Murphy, I'm glad to make you feel better....I still am laughing at myself because it's so ridiculous if you look at it from the outside, but I actually enjoy it. Today I got 3 1983 quarters and a 1942 jefferson so fro .75 cents I received in value $3.85 in numismatic value.

    I'm sick

Being a darksider, I am so sick that even though I do not collect US coins. I have torn up my credit cards (except one) so that I can do my shopping with CASH just so I can get change back.

It is so bad that when I go to the gas (petrol) station, I make sure the amount I purchase is not in even dollars.

Is there a doctor in the house?

I think we all need a vacation or psycholgical help. I have started exchanging my cash for... more cash when the bank has no extra coins available. I search the cash for oddities, then return it for more coins or ...cash.
Yikes, I can't wait for winter to be over!
Then I can spend more time outside mowing my lawn.
Never thought I'd here myself say that! LOL

I always look at my change. And, I never give change as payment. If the total is $1.01, I would give 2.00 to get back the .99 in change EVEN if I have the penny in my pocket.

By the way, I just went to the vending machine a work and it is out of order. I am PO'd

I go to the local coffee shop and exchange the tips the waitress get for paper bills,

Haha! I have done that before. When the state quarters were just comming out, I would do it a lot at my dads work to try to get a new quarter. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I wish I had the ability to do that. I just dont have the knowledge to know what im looking for yet. Other than error coins, just looking at the coins date and mint means nothing to me at this point. Obviously older = better but I also know that is not always the case.

Anyone know of a good source of info on "normal" coins that are worth more than face?

smetimes what I find isn't anything of much more value other than face, but they are sometimes interesting to find.
