I came across this 1974 s lincoln that was in a cardboard holder. Looked strange so I pulled it out and it weighs 3.1gms but on reverse it looks like the coating is coming off and the difference in thickness is really noticeable. Need alot of help on this one..thanks again. Pics don't show the true difference and I apologize but flaking can be seen with the naked eye.
That is a proof. Was cracked out of a set. Not sure what you are talking about "peeling". Looks normal to me.
It's a 1974-S! That's a proof coin and there is no coating. There are mostly copper. Looks like a minor stain on the coin. It's not going to bring any extra value.
Thanks Collecting Nut, I went on internet and was afraid to ask the question then have the FBI knocking my door down for having a copper coated aluminum penny after reading articles on them. Read they weigh less but the thickness made me think planchet was just thick...lol
If it's thick you could have a thicker planchet than normal but still not worth the costs to find out. Just put in a flip and keep it. Merry Christmas
There are regular 74-S business strikes, but yours looks nothing like that. Proof coin as already posted.
Sorry about the pics and hope these show the blotches I reffered to on initial post. The two largest under memorial have a clear coat peeling appearance.
