I have had this 1937 "S" Washington Quarter for several years now and have always wondered about its mint mark, it looks like a possible D over S. I finnaly got my microscope to view my coins and this is the first coin I have examined due to my years of curiosity. At 2X power can anyone tell me if this is a D over S mintmark? It sure looks like it to me. Just curious to know because Ive never seen on a 1937 "S". If not what mint is it?
Tough, but it might be a rotated RPM, D over D. Since it is so difficult it is a coin with reduced value. Have you checked on the various error websites to compare this coin, to see if it is a known RPM? See the links in the "numismatic resources" link. Gary in Washington
No I haven’t checked the RPM I’ll have to do a bit more research. The coins condition is pry EF so it’s not a huge deal but more of a curiosity thing. Thanks.
Not a match for any of the 37-D RPMs on Variety Vista. Given the state of preservation, I'm going to come down on the side of saying "equivocal."
Here are the photos, sorry but I can’t get the whole coin in view with the microscope, but you can see the mintmark glitch.
Can't tell anything from the above photogs.....the blobby one at the initial post is best, but I can't tell much from that photog either. What I'm thinkin' is that is a shot of a North Korean missile site..........
