My son and his wife thought I'd enjoy this book! They were right! To keep from cluttering up the board, I thought we should have one thread to show off how thoughtful our family and friends were in choosing numismatic gifts for us. Merry Christmas to all and may the joy of the season extend throughout the year.
Unfortunately, my family wouldn't know where to start choosing a coin-related present for me. However, since I'm here, I'd best show something... I'd ordered these earlier this month and having receiving notification that they'd arrived, I walked out this morning to pick them up from my post office mailbox. I'm going to consider them part of my X'mas presents... I guess I'm pretty thoughtful to myself. Merry Christmas, everyone!
My family is small and we aren't exchanging presents this year. I'm going to (finally!) buy myself Lorber's Coins of the Ptolemaic Empire. I'd order it today but I forgot the ANS member discount code and will have to call them after the holiday(s). Excellent suggestion
Whoops, I was so excited to post my new coin I did't realize there was this thread and made my own thread. Sorry :/
A friend of mine brought me this bottle of wine which has a picture of a coin of Domitian. Apparently the winery found this coin on the grounds of their vineyard in Spain, and they’ve used it on all of their bottles ever since. I thought this was a pretty cool gift, thought you’d appreciate it.
We stopped exchanging gifts years ago except for kids and things we buy for a couple local underprivileged children charities. When my daughter was 13 she decided what she wanted was cash and a trip to a large shopping center about an hour from home. Today, my grandson gets money and access to the Internet sellers of things I do not understand. This month, I did buy myself a camera I did not need and a lighted keyboard for the family desktop computer that my wife likes, too. We will not be returning things tomorrow. Severus Alexander did give the best present this year by thinking of me and letting me have a coin (posted on my year end list) that he bought for himself. The best presents are not things but the thoughts that go with them.
Carausius Radiate with Moneta Avg reverse Maximianus (second reign) from London Mint with excellent and interesting provenance Irregular Claudian As found in North Yorkshire Will do separate posts for the coins over the coming days. I've been very lucky (and I chose all the gifts myself haha). Merry Christmas everyone.
I got a few nice things so far: I purchased this Armenian coin from Forvm on Black Friday and gave it to myself. I hadn’t really read the description and thought it would be small, but it is actually a nice sized coin: My wife got me something I’ve wanted since childhood, and I can’t wait to put it on my desk at work: But by far my favorite gift came from an influential mentor and friend. It is a True Cross Pilgrim Token, the variety with three figures beneath the cross. It is an exceptionally nice example, too. I’d like to work with a chemist and see if there are actually traces of wood ash in the mix, assuming it can be safely assessed. That would make for a fun Koinon article Next Christmas celebration with my side of the family is Saturday, and while I don’t expect anything numismatic, they are always full of surprises! Merry Christmas to All!
Nice gifts everyone. Mine are related but not coins themselves. The last one is just fun and is not related to coins at all.
When I got my provincial Julia Domna with the three Graces reverse on it earlier this year my wife had an excellent idea for my Xmas gift: I put the coin in a saflap in one of those floating coin holders to compliment the wonderful gift from my wonderful wifey! Here's the coin again:
Claudius joined our family. Blue tolerates him. Pomeranian runt of the litter - (Just like Emperor Claudius), 10 weeks, and fits in the palm of my hand. MAYBE 6” at the withers. So far, not a yapper or a nipper. He has a great personality.
My sister Freaked me out with this 2016 Walking Liberty Dollar for Christmas. Not a proof and a great coin. Merry Christmas to you all.
Some clothes, a few chocolates, a bottle of wine, and so on. I did buy myself a coin of Tacitus on the 23rd, if you've seen that thread. Shipped from France yesterday. Happy Holidays to All!
Ohhhh...so, are you that "Q" everyone is talking about? Joking - I know you were Q long before this new fella!! (or gal or whoever it is)...
Great post, @Roman Collector ! Here are my Christmas morning gifts. The persons from whom I received several of these are obviously aware of how much I enjoy preparing breakfast for folks I’ve included my awesome Secret Santa Saturnalia gift which is a Judaean Lily (Antiochus VII / John Hyrcanus) coin.
