As with many of us with coin collecting OCD, my Washington collection started in one direction, and then expanded. ORIGINALLY, circa 2011, I decided to put together a 1940 - 1964 set of slabbed Washies in MS66. A lot of the cost of a Washington set is in the 1932 - 1939 coins, so this was a way to put together an enjoyable and reasonably inexpensive collection without the big ticket coins. After a while, I decided to build a raw toner 1940 - 1964 Dansco of Washingtons. Then came the standard coin collecting OCD of upgrading, and picking up the OCCASIONAL 1932 - 1939 and 1965 - 1985 Washington if they were attractive and reasonably inexpensive. I ended up building up 3 Danscos; an A, a B and a C toner one. Solely for the A toner Dansco I decided to fill in the 1932 - 1939 range of Washingtons, as well as the 1965 - 1985 range of Washies (I stopped at 1985 because that was the end of the page of the Dansco where Washingtons still had some relief). Given that the endeavor was designed to be a fun low cost project, for the 1932 - 1939 Washingtons I decided that the 1932 PDS would be in the XF range, while the 1934 - 1936 coins would be predominantly AU and the 1937 - 1939 coins would be predominantly MS. I've finally gotten most of the 1932 - 1939 range imaged. You will have seen some of these coins previously, but some will be new to you. Here then are the 1932 PDS Washingtons for the A Dansco. The P and S were picked up raw, the D was in a PCGS XF45 slab and cracked out. The images are by Bob Campbell, and I think he did an excellent job.
....And I thought "one" complete Washington Dansco set with all MS was challenging! Since this thread, have your sets grown to D, E & F?

Nope, although I do have a good slug of "extras" that could go a decent way to filling a D album. After 3 albums, my upgrading was taking the coin quality up to where I might as well be buying slabbed coins. Since my slabbed 1940 - 1964 Washingtons were already where I wanted them (grade wise) that didn't make any sense.
If you do a Search using the assorted dates, e.g. 1940 up through 1964 (also 1932 - 1939, and some 1965 - 1985 dates), you'll find a bunch of threads with my A and B album Washingtons, as well as my slabbed ones too. 1957 produced a bunch of nice toner Washingtons, so I don't think it's as instructive as to movement between the C, B, A and slabbed Washingtons. I've decided to go with 1945-S to give you a better idea. Remember, I'm more interested in toning then necessarily strike or uncirculated condition. When the first announced the States quarters series I figured that folks would get bored waiting for the next series and would probably look back and collect the earlier ones. So, I put together a Set #1: all uncs, in a dansco, 1932 to 1964, except for the 1932 PDS in AU, plus the 1936 D in AU. Then added the clads, uns & proofs [clad & silver]. Then set #2: only the silver, all VG to some uncs. no clads Then came #3: which I saw at a dealer's table, and figured that it was a good deal, VG to uncs. Then a bunch of slabs. Too much, I wound up with [total including sets] of 7 32 D's, and 9 32 S's. OCD strikes again I forgot, I included toned ones as I found them
Ha, been working on this set raw for years now. The more you guys respond here, the more I know who my competitors have been. Great coins @Skyman, said with a touch of jealousy.
Most are packed away as we have moved 3 times in as many years with work. I have posted some on here occasionally. I started in 32 and went through to 98, including proofs. It's not finished and I never have a free moment that I'm not working on it, or at least partially in mind. I have also been working on other sets that interest me and if one set becomes frustrating, I jump to another. Yep, that dilemma sounds familiar. I shut everything (other coins, albums & sets) off and laser focused on my Washington Dansco for over a year. My last page ends with 80-S Proof. 32-80 all MS. I put that baby to bed!!
