I am patiently waiting for Christmas as well. The numismatic gifts are the ones that I look forward to the most.

Yaaaayyyy!!! Hey, everybody!! My SS gift arrived today..... There's the envelope!!

I plan to open it tomorrow evening/night!!!!

 

My gift was sent out last week, but it returned to me yesterday I have to send it back out. I am really sorry mine is late for the recipient. Do not worry its going to be awesome and you'll love it. Hope it gets there ASAP.

 

Because my family will be catching a flight this afternoon, we exchanged and opened some gifts earlier than normal. It will be the first time that both of my boys (7 and 5) have flown.

I really like this Secret Santa exchange because numismatic gifts might otherwise be few and far between. I was fortunate enough to be given some foreign currency and a seated dime, which is my favorite series. I spent an hour or so a few weekends ago looking at some of my nicer seated dimes with my oldest son who remarked that "he didn't have and seated dimes in his collection". I plan to share it with him. He will be excited to have a coin in his collection that it 178 years old!

okay, for the record xmas starts in 10 hours, 56 min here on the east coast

 

I did the whole open on xmas eve thing. Woo boy am I happy. My SS put some serious thought into this. Thank you very much SS.

-Whole set of Jefferson wartime silver nickels.
-An entire roll of '43P silver nickels.
-A whole roll of wheaties where all of them are pre 1944, including '43PDS. Can almost fill a Whitman album for 1930 and earlier.
- Bicentennial silver proof set
-1oz copper round.
- two 1964P Proof Jefferson nickels
-1964D Washington quarter PL?
- Man on the moon medal
-2x2 cent holders

 

Also kind-of a tradition to open a few gifts on Christmas Eve. Secret Santa sent me a nice 1904 O Morgan dollar! Who doesn't love Big Silver Coins for Christmas? Thank you for the generous gift! My wife tells me I am impossible to shop for - well I say Morgan Dollars are always a hit!

 

Did our Christmas tonight. Last thing to open was my SS gift. What a very nice gift! I guess I'll have to start on some foreign coins with this good start. The slabbed coins are great, and the 1909 VDB is, of course, always a nice gift for any collection. Thanks Santa!

I opened the larger one first and found this beautiful PCI slabbed Liberty dollar!!! 1924, folks! MS63, People!!! With grade authenticated. I will have to go learn something about these coins. I am wholly ignorant except i know it stays in the slab. It is gorgeous!! I did not have one of these!



Also, my SS sent me a gorgeous Belgian coin - 1864. I have a couple of Belgian coins but none as old as this one! I really like it, and it will cause me to pull out my world coin binder.





In addition to the above, my SS included a blank coin. Is it a planchette that was not struck? I will have to look into that. Whatever it is, it was meant to be a coin and i do not own one so i love it. Thanks SS!!



Then there is that special 2009 D Lincoln cent. I actually keep my eyes peeled for these. I will look more carefully at this and each coin in the morning when my eyes and lighting are better. I’ll read and learn more about what I have here! Something looks extra interesting with that mint mark...and something with the reverse? Can not shoot it better at this hour through the plastic.




The gifts I received from my Secret Santa made me interested in coins with which I have not spent much, or any, time before. Thank you sweet Secret Santa!
