    Koinon of Macedon.
    Pseudo-autonomous issue, time of Gordian, 238 - 244.AD.
Coin minted during Emperor Gordian 238 - 244.AD. from Autonomous
City state of Koinon. or (Coinon)
They were not autonomous but they didn't have a Roman garrison in town,
that's why this city state was called Pseudo ( Pretending) to be Autonomous.

Obverse: AΛEΞANΔPOY Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right.

Reverse: KOINON MAKEΔONΩN B NEΩ Alexander the Great,
on horseback to right, brandishing spear with his right hand.

Very attractive, this Roman Provincial coin. We may compare types on Wildwinds.
Macedonia was probably a proud province, but still subject to the Roman emperor, although he is not pictured or mentioned on this coin.

B NEΩ stands for Second Neokorate (or Neocorate), meaning the koinon of Macedonia had twice built a temple to honor a reigning emperor. This was a highly esteemed rank in the Eastern imperial provinces.

    Koinon of Macedonia:

Time of Severus Alexander, AD 231-235.
    Quasi-autonomous AE 25.1 mm, 11.60 g, 7 h.
    Koinon of Macedon.
Obv: AΛЄΞANΔPOV, diademed head of Alexander the Great with flowing hair, right.
Rev: KOINON MAKЄΔONΩN NЄΩ, Alexander, his cloak fluttering behind him and raising right arm, galloping his horse, right.
Refs: AMNG III 388; cf. BMC Macedonia p.24, 120; cf. Lindgren II 1374.

This coin comes in umpteen varieties and attributing them can be a bear. AMNG III (Imhoof-Blumer) has a nearly complete listing of them. Here's my coin, for example:

BMC Macedonia has several examples as well.
