My oldest son came by today. He is not a systematic collector. He accumulates stuff and holds on to it for years. He dropped off a bag of several hundred IHC's that he had had for years. I started going through them. SO far I have found an 1861 and 1862. Also found a 1902 that looks like it was plated silver.
That's a good looking group of IHC. Maybe you can get him a Whitman folder and start a more organized collection that he can add to and admire. Merry Christmas!!
Am getting a better idea of what he has. It looks like about 75% of a set. Good idea. Merry Christmas to you.
I dream of waking up Christmas morning , being the lucky recipient of a neat roll of shiny MS RB 1866 IHC's. As it is, I'll probably have to settle for a lone 1907.......and brown in color.
It was a good assortment. There are at least one of each date from 1879 to 1909, without the s mints. Some very nice higher grade coins.
He picks up stuff in antique stores and runs into people with accumulations. He is just always poking around and talking about old stuff. Plus, he travels all over the world on business. He puts it away and one day he runs into it. Most times he doesn't even remember where he got it. I guess some people are just lucky that way. I think I'll try to get more out of him about his modus operandi.
