1966 Penny - Strikethrough Error or Unusual PMD?

Hey there everyone. I've been lurking a while but I figured I should post a thread about this unusual penny of mine.

I like to do coin roll hunting, and at a bank stop a few months ago I only grabbed a couple penny rolls since I was low on cash (I usually like to get the $25 boxes). And in the second roll, this is the first penny I find.

I look at every coins I get in my hands for errors, but I only pause for anything that can be noticed at a quick glance. I don't want to be the person who thinks every damaged coin is an error. But this one obviously stood out. :wacky:

The reverse of the penny is almost all absent, except for a circular area in the center. The penny otherwise looks mainly normal. There are marks in the empty area, but I don't know if they're tool marks or just from normal circulation.

My guess is that this was either struck through a washer (hence the circular area still showing), or somebody was bored/feeling artsy after the fact.

What do you folks think? I hope the phone pics I took are sufficient. If not I can get out my camera.

    Thanks! IMG_20180908_134701.jpg IMG_20180908_134732.jpg IMG_20180908_134802.jpg IMG_20180908_134832.jpg IMG_20180908_134849.jpg

Imagine finding a struck washer. That would be REALLY VALUABLE.

Copper washers cost more than just making one from a pre 82 cent.
Just search copper washers on amazon if you're curious.

The washer that fell into the coining didn't have to be copper.
I imagine a regular steel type washer.
