    silentnviolent accumulator--selling--make an offer I can't refuse

Hey all. Anybody who collects medals out there?? Help me please with this. I dont know theyear or the country, but BASC was the Berlin Air Safety Center, and it was in charge of the airspace over Europe after World War II. It disbanded after the fall of the Berlin wall. Any experts who could tell me a possible year or country of issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Thank you. Yes, that site is where I was able to learn the little I did about the Center, but yeah, I've been unable to find another example about the thing. I got it from a guy who I was caretaking his private island for a portion of my pay. He was high in the labor union back in the day, and has autographed pics of Jimmy Hoffa and Vice President Walter Mondale, who used to go up there duck hunting with him. Cool stuff, but no info or even other examples of the medal that I can find. -Andy

Have you tried contacting the US Airforce? they might have info also the present day German air traffic control as I would assume that they took it over when the wall came down.

The building depicted in the center is the seat of the Kammergericht in Berlin. Between 1945 and 1989/90 that building was the seat of the BASC. By the way, it has about 500 rooms, but since nothing except the BASC was in there during those years, only 20 rooms or so were used. As from 1997 the building has been used as a court again.

Here is some info about the Kammergericht: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kammergericht (well, a picture - the info "There are no other supreme courts in Germany" is nonsense :) ). Anyway, in early December 1975 the four allies apparently celebrated the 30-year jubilee of the BASC, so maybe the medal was made on that occasion.

Air traffic today is controlled by Eurocontrol http://www.eurocontrol.int/ and DFS http://www.dfs.de/ ... Maybe the DFS has some more info.

    New pics

Hi everyone! I resurrected my four year old thread because... well... I still know nothing more about it today than I did then. New camera, new pics, new members... I did notice one thing though, and I'm suprised none of the more seasoned vets here mentioned it before, is that the medal alignment brings the US section to the top when you flip it. This suggests to me that it is a US made medal. How can I find out what metal the medal is composed of? Thanks for your renewed (I hope) interest. :)
