This looks like a mint error to me but want to know what others think. Its definitely a 1983. 80862810_596085354481965_1675440581523800064_n.jpg 80131352_1176422885890266_3588969144638242816_n.jpg 80635470_2475190439410384_1093086425420660736_n.jpg

Struck through grease maybe? How do you know it's an 1983? Or are you just saying it's a zinc penny?

Possibly struck through a lot of grease?

Thanks for the feedback, wasn't sure what would have caused it. The date is faintly visible under a light with a magnifier you can almost see it in the picture.

@paddyman98. Is this anything to do with a late stage capped die? I have had very little experience in that area. The reverse had a harshly done die polishing.

It would have to be a Struck with Early Stage Capped Die not a Late Stage. The later the stage the more design details show due to thinning of the capped coin. I think it was Struck with a Capped Die and not a Die Capped coin itself. I believe they are two different types of error coins.
Someone Please correct me if I am wrong so the OP gets good information.

I also think the OP's coin is struck through die cap.

I whole heartedly agree with a Die cap strike through. A very nice Mint error. Nice that you can date it.
