My wife and I are going on vacation to St. Louis in a few weeks and I was curious if anyone here could recommend a shop or two to check out. We've never been to St. Louis before and I always enjoy going to other stores. Sometimes the phone book isn't the best tool to use for this kind of thing. Thanks in advance.

I should be able to answer this, but I don't really know. It seems that every time I'm in St. Louis its a saturday afternoon ir a Sunday and all the coin shops are closed. Scotsman is a major company, but I get the feeling that they mostly do modern stuff and bullion in their shop, and most of their old stuff goes into auctions.

You wouldn't by chance be coming to town around the middle of next month would you? There is going to be a big show in St. Charles (St. Louis suburb) on August 15-17.

Maybe someone else can help you better. Wheres tcore and coinlover???

    Klunky,

On the Illinois side of the river in O'Fallon, there's a pretty nice little shop called Eagle Coin, Stamp and Jewelry. On the Missouri side, I've bought a few things from Missouri Coin Company. I've also been to Scotsman, which is probably the biggest dealer in town, but they don't really have much in their cases besides modern stuff (if you're just interested in browsing). You really have to ask them to see specific types of coins and then they go get them.

Good luck. I hope you enjoy your trip. Let us know when you're going to be here.
