Well, I've been working on my a Birth Year set (1987).
I'm trying to get Proof sets from various counties, or Mint sets if proof is not available.

So here's what I have so far:

    US Mint Set
    US Silver Eagle
    US Proof Set
    US Prestige Proof Set
    Canadian [Double Dollar] Proof Set
    UK Proof Set
    Israel Mint Set
    Singapore Mint Set

    :D

I'm still looking for plenty of others, including New Zealand, Australia, USSR, Cook Islands, and who knows what else!
The good/expensive thing is, in '87 there was no Euro, so each European country will have its own coins...

I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow.

The other mint sets should not be too difficult to find as long as you budget about 40USD per mint set. So far, the USSR and Australia mint set should be easy. Not too sure about the rest but you might want to try ebay.com.au if you are looking for Oceania coinage. Btw, nice year - 1987.

    Yeah I know... :(
So far everything has been 25$ or less, with exception of the Silver Eagle, which I got for 33.

At one time I was collecting the world for my birthyear.
    Probably was about 90% done.

Then I said heck with it, and sold it all off except the US.
I had too many things I was collecting and decided to pull back to US only.
My US birthyear set is complete in business strikes. Never really been thrilled with proofs, and they are expensive.
All the cents are MS-66; everything else is MS-65 (nickels are FS) except the S-mint half is MS-64 (too expensive in -65.)

    Oh, the year?
    1941

Good luck with the 1917 - and yeah, 1916 would be nuts (depending if you did mint mark or not)

I was thinking of doing my grandfathers birth year, 1933.
That wouldnt be too bad... considering there are no quarters, dimes, nickels, dollars, or gold.

In fact, it would be pretty boring. I'd have a Lincoln Cent and WL Half...

Maybe I can do my grandmothers (1932) and grandfathers.
but even then... no dime, nickel, dollar, only a 10$ gold... lol - and no half for '32... x_x

lol I know, I was making an over exaggerated old-person joke :)

Still it gives a kind of personal feeling to the coins . And don't forget that '33 ST. Gaudens that should be easy . LOL

Nice idea. You're going to need committment to do a "world" one. Gives you a lot of variety though.

Another "pain in the ..." year would be 1921.

Why a high end 21 Walker will only cost you about $100,000 .

And the '21 SLQ is darn right cheap at $5000 in MS-65-FH .
