Can anyone tell me what this is called, how it happens, and a rough value??? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Maybe 2 planchets stuck together , if that can happen . Your guess is as good as mine . But the coin is cool , don't collect errors but I would like that one . How thick is it ? rzage
Imeant that maybe there was another coin or something over this one when it was struck , not that they were still stuck together . The reason I asked its thickness was I thought maybe it was a thin planchet or something .
Sometimes when coins are being struck a planchet will get stuck to the hammer die. And every coin after that is struck while this other planchet is stuck on the die - the die is capped in other words. The actual die cap can almost turn into a cup shape while the coins struck with it have a dished effect and very poor details.
