I have been anticipating the end of the State Parks series of quarters so I could stop buying anything special from the mint. I have been getting the set of 3 for each release only because I wanted to complete my set. I just realized that after the end in 2021 they will start another 11 years series of a second park or monument for each state. It is not about legal tender anymore. It is about a revenue source for the mint.
The law allowed them to do another 11 years but it doesn't look like they plan on doing so. They have already (just recently) selected the design for the "Washington crossing the Delaware" rev that is supposed to replace the ATB quarters. Besides they have plans for a 250 anniversary of Indipendence program which I beileve will be on all the coins in 2026. An 11 year ATB would interfere with that. And they also have an animals and a youth sport program waiting in the wings (each of those just 5 coins). No I don't think we will see any more ATB quarters once the first round ends.
Yes, agree with Conder101, it is my understanding that it will be "Crossing the Delaware". There was a window of time where the Secretary could have extended the series but it expired and the default option was the river.
What did Delaware, asked Virginia?... I said, Idaho, but Oprah would know, Alaska! Hawa'ii said Oprah. Ohio! …"O" said "last I saw, she wore a brand New Jersey! Great, I said, what was the Maine theme? I think it was something with the Issippi brand. OK, I'll check with Mississippi, she'll know! ...yes, I remember, Missy said. It was for our new slim fit jeans. I really wanted to see them on Texas, Kansas, & especially Arkansas. They're an Amazon fit! (Note: They're pretty pricey, like they're made of "Au"...but they're only "Argentina" ) Later...Well "O", I found out they advertised Mississippi's jeans. How ironic, said "O"...I tried a pair last week, but California'd them! I was making a batch of Turkey Chile, Russian around trying to find the Oregon-o ). Iran to the cabinet, slipped on Greece & broke the China I was going to serve it on, tearing a hole in them. Irish I hadn't ruined them, they're like Au. I put them in the trash, but my dog, Diana got hold of them, & well...now they're Indiana. Well, Virginia, I spoke to "O", and... "O"? I want to talk to her, where is she? Go West Virginia! She's in Chicago (look for "chicken in the car & the car can't go"!). @green18, hope you don't miss this one; & thank you Wild Turkey! Btw, my agent says I should give up the act, but I'm not so sure.
The first coin in early 2021 is the last of the series. Not surprised about the new program but they are oversaturating the market with product.
@PlanoSteve, “my agent says I should give up the act, but I'm not so sure.” I say PLEASE give up the act. Reed.
If no other option passed (and either they never got out of Congress, or the time limit to approve them came and went) by default, after the last ATB quarter comes out, it will revert to Washington crossing the Delaware, which now looks like what's going to happen. Either in 2022 at the latest, though technically they could start it in 2021 after they've decided they've made enough Tuskegee Airman quarters for the year. So yay, not another 11 year long quarter series (yet anyway). And in 2026 expect probably among all or most of the coins, reverses for the 250th anniversary of independence.
No, Oprah is critical to the underlying elements to the story...not all will get it, & I'm OK with that. I considered Georgia, & some other elements, but the story was getting too long already, I didn't want to lose anyone else, & I was/am under the influence (otherwise this great piece of prose wouldn't have made it past my editor in the first place! ).
