I think I got the short end of this stick both from those posted today and from the dealer. My question is not is not "see if you can guess how notice my coin is" or "should I slab it", but merely should I keep it. This guy thinks it is a 65. I disagree. For $60, should I keep it or return it?
rlm's, just my opinion but if I'm paying for an MS 65 coin I would not accept it if it had any blemishes or spots. Lou
Hey Lou? Considering it would easily grade a MS-63RD, I don't think he did bad and it could hit 64 possibly 65. So for 60 bucks, he didn't get hurt. :thumb: Ribbit
Toad, rlm's paid for a MS 65 coin and I think that an MS 65 coin should not have any spots. Did he get a good deal, only time will tell. Those spots may get bigger, darker or turn green. Lou
Thats a tough one, but I dont think I would want to pay $60. Its clearly not a 65 and not really worth having slabbed. So if you bought it as a 65 with plans on having it slabbed, tell the guy that you dont agree with the grade. Id prob keep the coin knowing I didnt make out, but didnt loose either. I guess it depends on what you thought you were getting compared to, what you got.
Considering the nick on the nose, cheek, jaw and forehead does anyone think this coin could get a 64? Personally, I think the back is a solid 64, possible 65, but the observe is no better than a 63.
I don't think you can get to 64 here, just because of the obverse. TPG's are hard on carbon spots, and this would be too tough to get to a 64, imo. I do agree the reverse is 64ish though. edited to add: great eye-appeal and luster though, just those darn spots!
It certainly wouldn't surprise me if PCGS slabbed that a 64. If they can slab this as a 63 - then that's a 64 in their eyes.
Doug, Your's may have more spots than mine, but mine wins hands down for nicks and nicks in the wrong areas.
You're being too nice Jack. If that was an ordinary coin from the '30's or so it would have been body bagged in a New York second.
