It must be the finest known silver Jefferson, otherwise why would it be so expensive? $1700? See the eBay listing here.
I have seen plenty of way better coins from the same year, I don't see why the nickle would be any different
I've always wanted eBay to make their listing fee based on the opening Bid/BIN. That would cut out a lot of this type of nonsense.
I haven't sold anything on there since the late nineties when they did. If memory serves me correctly it was something along the lines of an incremental fee. Up to $49.99, up to $99.99 and so forth based on the original listed price which included the BIN option. Not sure if and when it was dropped.
I don't remember that and I've been an eBay member since 1999 (but then at my age I'm finding I don't remember a LOT anymore). Seems to me they eventually topped out listing fees at about $2.40. Nowadays you should easily get 50 free listings and you don't have to do much to get another 100.
If I put mine on eBay at a thousand dollars I'd be a millionaire if I sold them all and mine are in better shape!
You guys are being quite harsh, this is clearly the extremely rare "shot it head and jaw' variety and is a steal at that price.
It's worth .96 cents. I do have one very nice war nickel I pulled from circulation when I worked in a liquor store during the 90's. The odd patina was looking up at me from the cash register all day. I finally looked at it, and I replaced it with a regular nickel. If I take it out of the 2x2, I will post a photo. I grade it at least XF 45. It's very nice for a circulation find. Maybe it's borderline AU 50/53, nickels are difficult to grade.
I doubt that the majority of these kinds of listings are neither fishing for "idiots" or attention nor clueless newbies. I would put out that many of these are trying to clean something, and I'm not talking about clothes.
OK it wasn't in a 2x2 it was with some other war nickels. The second photo is to compare the patina with the regular ones. The luster is real. And it has a slightly golder tone.
