Here is a very nice coin I purchased from Steve. It's one of his duplicates and he let me have it for $80.00. His grade was a very conservative VF-35, but I'd easily say EF/XF. The Overton Variety is O-116 and is a pretty HTF coin with a R-3 rarity rating. please chime in with any comments. Take Care Ben
I think this coin has nice strong details. Is the issue with the PL on PLURIBUS due to a weak strike or post mint damage? Bruce
You could say weak strike, but it's also 'lack of metal flow' since directly opposite the weak area (on the obverse) is a very thick BUST which takes up a lot of metal. These coins were very thick for halves and sometimes the metal from the planchet couldn't fill all the die, thus leaving a weak spot on on side and a well struck area on the other. Take Care Ben
So you finally got a B-day coin? Ribbit Ps: Not bad but it would look better in my CBH collection . . . well . . . otay . . . it would actually be my CBH collection.
I don't know how you find such nice CBHs for well under $100. The ones I see are cleaned, dinged, damaged, etc.
VF or EF.... 80 bucks was a steal for that. I'd like to know where you keep finding them also. I'm not planning on going big into collecting CBHs but I have a hard time passing up ones that I like. Amazing feather detail on the eagle and on it's feet. The clasp shows up perfectly. I bet it would go EF. Great deal!
That was one thing which shocked (really) him simply was my goal; to acquire coins at or about $100 each. He then understood why there were so may in F-VF-EF conditions. You should have seen him laugh when he heard about the $20 - 1820 in G-4ish condition I picked up at the local store. FYI, the 1820 is the 3rd toughest date (by mintage) to find in the series. www.jabpublish.com/1820CBH106.jpg The average now for each coin (including the 1815/2) is now $104.00. Not bad IMHO. Take care Ben
Real nice example , I'd of paid double or more XF for sure , Bone how did your Sat. Interview go , sure hope it went well . And a R-3 to boot . rzage
10 hours well then your most likely a shoe in , gotta realise how much you love BHs , and he must of liked you . I know I wouldn't sit around & talk shop with someone I didn't want in the club . How long before you know for sure . Rusty
Aahhh, now I get all the posts! That's a really cool goal. I can imagine it's a tough one to follow. I like it. Makes sense. You can't hardly ask for a nicer CBH than the on you have pictured here and for 80 bucks. Now that feels good! hya:
