I see a lot of people comment on eBay but I don't see much discussion about Amazon. Would anyone like to share their opinions or experiences with Amazon? 1943 P Walking Liberty Half Dollar $.50 Brilliant Uncirculated https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D18QYQX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9CK-DbV7X894W
I guess it just depends on the seller. Some have great reviews for being honest, other have bad for being a scam
Generally Amazon is not the place to buy coins. There's no guarantee what this grade will be when you receive it, photos can be deceptive. Are you getting the same coin as the photo? If it were slabbed MS it's still over priced a little. This seller may have a good reputation, but overall from the coin searches I did on Amazon it was not worth it.
I feel like I understand the eBay ecosystem better than Amazon. I know how to bargain-hunt, I have a fair sense for legit vs risky listings, and I have extensive experience with eBay's Buyer Protection system. I've seen lots of posts from people here about their eBay purchases, but I'm not sure I remember any from Amazon.
Yes I noticed it seems common to display something that you're not actually going to get. I've had problems with eBay before with returns, in that the seller instantly marks the item as shipped.
Not exactly sure what you mean here, but... eBay lets sellers print postage directly from a link in the completed listing; it's convenient, and you get a small discount on the postage. As soon as you print the label, eBay marks the item as "Shipped"; at that point, you have the tracking number, although it'll only say something like "Tracking info sent to shipper" until it actually gets picked up and scanned. I don't sell much, but when I do, I often print the label as soon as I see that I've received payment. I then get it to USPS either that day or the next business day. What problems have you had with returns?
So if they mark the item as shipped all you can do is contact the seller for return. And they have 3 days to respond. That's what I remember anyway. That was a few years ago maybe it is changed.
I have generally found Amazon to be over priced. But I'm also a bit of a bargain hunter. Plus I'd rather be able to see pics, front and back, of the exact coin I'm getting.
I'm afraid I still don't understand what you're getting at. Are you talking about returning an item after you've received it, or backing out of the sale before the item is shipped, or something else?
Backing out before you recieve it. There was a circumstance which I had to cancel my order on ebay just a couple minutes after I bought it. It was not auction. The seller said they would try to stop the shipping but they didn't. They had a return shipping fee so I had to eat shipping both ways.
Yes. I asked the seller if the coin pictured was the actual coin that would be received. I'm waiting for a reply.
Ebay is still by far the #1 place in volume of coins sold and Amazon in comparison is not on the playing field when it comes to buyers and sellers. I have looked on Amazon in the past and it's overpriced for common stuff.
