1997 P Washington Quarter, Strike Through?

    Feeder finger or a very heavy die gouge. Wait for the others.

    Looks like PMD to me as you can see the Y has taken a hit.

    If the direction of the hit on the "Y" happened to be in the same direction as the anomaly, I might be inclined to agree with you. However, it is not.

    @Kaye is the anomaly raised or recessed? If it is raised, then it is possibly the result of a die gouge.

    Well, I looked as closely as I could, and it does not appear to stand higher than the coin surface. I would say there are grooves with some metal left higher [the wider parts], but not raised above the original surface level.

    It looks like the planchet was damaged and most of the gouge was struck out.
